The Program

The Maine Highlanders is a Unified team of athletes and their partners who learn to skate and learn to play the game of hockey. They are all ages, all abilities. There are no fees for ice times and equipment is provided for those who need it.

They focus on serving athletes with intellectual, developmental, and physical challenges even providing walkers and sleds whenever needed. While they are developing a youth sled hockey team, they also partner with the Maine Blind Bears and the Maine Sled Hockey team.

But our team is about more than just hockey!

Each year our athletes train and compete in Maine Special Olympics games including speed skating, track and field, tennis, and more. We also offer a variety of year round activities including attending Maine Mariners and Seadogs games, visits to the Maine Botanical Gardens, holiday parties, special events, and more.

This is more than a team. It's a family.
